Thirteenth Meeting (11/22)

Thanks for coming to the meeting!! And thank you Jacqueline for delicious dinner! Our next meeting will be Wednesday January 8th at 6pm in the Winn Room (if we can book the room). Chris will bring food. We'll be reading to page 602, stopping before Jaime's chapter that begins with "Though his fever lingered stubbornly..." Here is some of what we talked about:

• Catelyn wants Robb to send away the man Greywind doesn't like, despite originally hating and mistrusting the wolves.
• Robb is starting to doubt the wolves because he believes that they failed Bran and Rickon.
• Walder Frey probably pits his heirs against each other, creating cruel and bitter relations between his sons and grandsons.
• The Brotherhood without Banners seems to be just a group of thieves despite its claims of defending and fighting for the smallfolk.
• Harwin is the only person who can identify Arya and who knows her whole story since she left King's Landing.
• Varys tells the small council about a kraken, a three-headed dragon, and wildlings. Tywin blows the rumors of the dragon off as nonsense, despite it having a kernel of truth. Varys undercuts the truth of the dragons by placing the news between two other things he knew Tywin would disregard.
• Tywin doesn't like Tyrion and blames Tyrion for the death of his wife. Tywin refuses Tyrion Casterly Rock, despite it being Tyrion's legal inheritance. Tywin burned his bridges with Tyrion.
• Cersei is still submissive to Tywin even though she is Queen and Tywin is only the Hand to the King. If Tyrion was King, he probably would no longer obey his father. Cersei feels like it his still her place to obey him.
