Meeting Friday

Hello Thronies! Our last meeting of 2013 is tomorrow (Friday) at 6pm in the Winn Room. Jacqueline is bringing food. We were supposed to read to page 298, stopping before Arya's chapter that begins with "The small square keep was half a ruin." I won't be at the meeting tomorrow, so if someone else wants to take notes and email them to me, I will post them on the blog. If you have read ahead, here is where we left each character at the end of this reading:
  • Jon struggles with the customs of the wildlings. Mance Rayder decides to send Jon with a group of wildlings over the Wall.
  • Sansa has been released from her engagement to Joffrey, and now hopes to marry Willas Tyrell.
  • Arya is being taken to Lord Beric Dondarrion as a captive.
  • The rangers of the Night's Watch are retreating from the Fist of the First Men after an Other attack. Sam kills an Other with an obsidian blade.
  • Tywin makes marriage matches for Cersei and Tyrion. Cersei is to choose between Lord Balon Greyjoy (who has declared himself to be King of the Iron Islands) and Willas Tyrell. Tyrion is to marry Sansa.
  • Robb has returned from Oxcross with new wife, who is not a Frey. Robb pardons his mother for freeing the Kingslayer, but executes Rickard Karstark for murder and treason after Rickard kills two Lannister boys.
  • Jaime decides that he will return Sansa to her mother, despite everyone's expectations of his dishonesty. He and Brienne finally get a chance to fight each other, but are then taken captive by the Bloody Mummers. The last paragraph we read was: "Sunlight ran silver along the edge of the arakh as it came shivering down, almost too fast to see. And Jaime screamed."
Our next meeting after this will probably be Wednesday January 8th at 6pm if that works for everyone and if we can get the Winn Room.

Here's some stuff to think about for those of you who HAVEN'T read ahead. What do you think happened to Jaime? Could this be a huge game changer? What will the consequences be for Robb now that he has broken his agreement with the Freys? What do you think Lord Beric will be like after having heard about him so often in the last book? Was Robb justified in killing Rickard or was he emotionally compromised because of the "deaths" of Bran and Rickon? How will Sansa take the news of her betrothal to Tyrion?
