Meeting Reminder

Good morning! Our next meeting is tomorrow, Wednesday June 25th at 6pm in the staff lounge. Eileen is bringing food, and we'll be talking about the 4th book all the way to the end. If you've already read the 5th book, read ahead to get a reminder of where the characters left off:

• Arianne is imprisoned for conspiring to crown princess Myrcella and start a war with King's Landing. Her father Prince Doran reveals to her that originally he planned to marry her to Viserys and make her queen, with her brother Quentyn becoming prince of Dorne. Since Viserys' death, he has another plan - Quentyn is now the one travelling east, "to bring us back our heart's desire." Doran presses an onyx dragon gamepiece into Arianne's hand and says that their heart's desire is vengeance and "fire and blood," which is the Targaryen family motto.
• Sansa aka Alayne is leaving the Eyrie with the last of the Arryn's household and Lord Robert Arryn to stay in a lower part of the Vale for winter. Petyr has arranged a marriage between her and Harry the Heir, if Harry will have her. Harry is the heir to the Vale after sickly Lord Robert. Petyr intends for Sansa to marry Harry and then reveal her identity to the world, winning her both the Eyrie and Winterfell.
• Brienne is attacked by Biter and Rorge, and is taken captive by Thoros of Myr and his outlaw companions. She is brought before Lady Stoneheart who is revealed to be Catelyn Stark's reanimated corpse. Catelyn commands the execution of Brienne, Pod, and Ser Hyle Hunt unless Brienne agrees to kill Jaime. Brienne's answer is left as a mystery.
• Cersei succeeds in having Margaery arrested for adultery and treason, but Cersei herself is also arrested. The High Septon will try them with a holy court of seven judges. A trial by combat is only allowed if Cersei and/or Margaery have a champion from the Kingsguard. Cersei sends a letter to Jaime pleading for his help.
• Jaime has taken Riverrun after Edmure surrenders. The Blackfish has escaped the castle. Jaime is visited by his dead mother in a haunting dream. He receives Cersei's desperate letter and, instead of answering it, he throws it in the fire.
• Sam arrives in Oldtown. At the Citadel, he meets Alleras the Sphinx, Archmaester Marwin, and Pate "like the pig boy." Hopefully you remember what happened to him from the prologue. If not, you might want to read it again :) Marwyn, called the Mage, immediately leaves to do what Aemon couldn't - find Dany, the Prince(ss) that was Promised. Sam will stay in Oldtown and forge his chain.
• Arya wasn't in this reading, but in the last reading she was Cat of the Canals. She kills Dareon for deserting the Night's Watch, reports 3 secrets to the mysterious man in the House of Black and White, and wakes up blind.
