- We talked more about Sansa and Arya. We had a couple ideas for Sansa: She understands much more than she lets on, and protects herself in the only way she knows how - by acting innocent and putting up the face of a lady. Or, she is stubbornly stuck in a made-up world where everything is like the songs and stories.
- Arya is a tomboy and yet Ned seems to want her to grow up to become more ladylike and marry a lord. Maybe he wants that for Arya because she is so similar to Lyanna, and Lyanna died very young.
- We discussed the similarities and differences between Varys and Littlefinger. Varys is more manipulative, pulling the strings behind the scenes. Littlefinger on the other hand snatches up opportunities as they arise, climbing higher and higher.
- Most of the most interesting characters, and the characters we like best, have something "wrong" with them (a dwarf, a bastard, a cripple, etc.). Does this make us like them more? Does it keep them from being too perfect to be believable?
- We also talked about some differences between the show and the book. One noticeable difference was Cersei. In the books, she is very easy to dislike. In the show the writers try to make it easier to sympathize with her. In the show she has a baby with Robert that doesn't survive past infancy, and she is shown to have loved Robert until their wedding night when it was obvious to her that he still loved Lyanna. In the books, when Cersei is pregnant with Robert's child, Jaime finds someone to "cleanse" her of the baby. And it is not made clear that she ever loved Robert, or anyone other than Jaime.
