Twenty-Eighth Meeting

Hi Bookleggers! Thanks for coming to the meeting! And thank you Chris for the pizza. Here is some of what we talked about:
  • The book parallels what we're doing in libraries today -- saving books that are on the verge of destruction.
  • The monks in the book began saving books without purpose -- the books are used for their own ends but aren't utilized fully. By saving books of science but then keeping them cloistered away where no one could learn from them destroyed the point of keeping them at all.
  • Archivists try to balance use and preservation
  • Science vs. religion: desperation puts the forces at odds while they grow in different and ultimately irreconcilable directions.
  • The Wandering Jew is waiting for the Second Coming of Christ, which we think was the birth of Rachel, as she was immaculately conceived.
Our next meeting is Friday May 29th at 6pm and we are reading The Talented Mr. Ripley. I'll be bringing food.

Happy reading!
