Twenty-Second Meeting

Hello! Thank you everyone for coming to the meeting, and thank you Jacqueline for the amazing couscous and the cake!! Happy birthday to all of you August babies. Our next meeting will be Wednesday September 24 at 6pm in the staff lounge. Chris is bringing food. We will be reading to page 662 in the paperback, stopping before The Ghost of Winterfell ("The dead man was found at the base of the inner wall.") Read on to see what we talked about at the meeting:

• Jon Connington has greyscale but doesn't try to cut off his infected finger.
• Tyrion might also be infected with greyscale.
• Stannis's daughter Shireen had greyscale as a child, and so is immune to the mortal strain of it that affects adults.
• Ramsay Bolton is very messed up. He offered the ironborn peace and safe passage home, but then turned on them, flaying them, using their blood as ink, and displaying them on poles.
• Roose Bolton may kill Ramsay if/when he has a trueborn son with his new wife Fat Walda - otherwise Ramsay could conceivably kill the baby to stay the heir.
• Melisandre, we find out, isn't that smart. She is blind to things outside of her own opinion. For example, she asks the fires to show her the savior Azor Ahai, but she is shown Jon instead of Stannis. She doesn't understand the signs that she is being shown. She is like Cersei, not seeing the things that don't coincide with her beliefs. She even says things that she believes to be wrong, just to create an image of omniscience. She sees a tower that she doesn't believe is Eastwatch, but she tells Jon that it is Eastwatch.
• Melisandre sees Bran (the boy with the wolf face) and the three-eyed crow (who we will see more of in 2 chapters) and she assumes that they are servants of the Great Other, the evil god. But we know that Bran and the three-eyed crow are with the children of the forest, who have spells to keep out the Others.
• We learn that Rickon is on Skagos (Cannibal Island! with unicorns!).
• Asha has an epiphany about nulling the results of the kingsmoot - Theon wasn't present for the kingsmoot, so he can claim that it was unlawful. Asha just has to get to Theon and get him to reclaim his name and his inheritance.
• Dany is way overdue to leave Slaver's Bay but she has decided to marry Hizdar zo Loraq so that she can cement her rule there.
