Second Meeting

We've decided to read up to page 202 before the next meeting, stopping before Tyrion's chapter. We'll meet again Wednesday May 5th at 6pm in the Winn Room.

Here's a little bit of what we talked about:

• We confirmed that it was the man in black with frostbitten ears from the prologue that was beheaded for desertion.
• Eddard Stark is initially presented to us as very wise and noble from the point of view of his son Bran.
• We are set up to immediately dislike the Lannisters because Eddard, who we already respect, dislikes them. 
• The significance of the direwolf pups and Jon's albino one, found after all the rest.
• Daenerys' brother Viserys and his obsession with the Iron Throne, and his possible paranoia.
• Daenerys' current location is not on the maps in the front of the book. She is in Pentos, one of the nine Free Cities east of the narrow sea (which is the body of water east of Westeros -Dragonstone and Tarth on the map are in the narrow sea).
• Candie thought it was significant that the first three chapters are about Bran, Catelyn, and Daenerys because she has a theory about the end of the series.

• Bran has just gotten a direwolf pup
• Catelyn has told Ned of Jon Arryn's death and King Robert's journey to Winterfell
• Daenerys is about to be introduced to Khal Drogo
• Ned has been asked to become Hand of the King.
